Case Description
I'm in need of a dental implant on number 9 and would like to replace the three crowns in the front. I've had flap surgery on number 9 on July 3rd, and they found a crack at the root of my existing tooth under the crown. I've also had gum contouring and now the root of the old tooth on 9 is exposed!! I would like an estimate of the implant and crowns. Also I need a second opinion if I need bone graft on #9. I would like to get the implant put in with a crown right away, if possible! If a crown cannot be placed right away, what other options do I have besides a flipper? What would be the approximate cost?

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Cost Estimate: $see above
Dental implants are a good choice and should be considered. You will spend approximately $2300 for an implant, $300-700 for an abuttment depending on what type is needed and about $1400 for an implant supported crown. Bone grafts are sometimes needed during or even separately before an implant and can run $300 to 900 depending on several factors.

Of course, an exam, xrays will confirm the options more clearly. I''''ll be glad to see you for that.

Sincerely,

Bill Williams, DMD, MAGD, MICCMO

It sounds like you have already had some treatment options given to you. When #9 is extracted we have another option available to replace the tooth in the interim other than a flipper. The flipper is the least desirable way of replacing a missing tooth b/c not only is it not unesthetic but it also impinges on the tissue and does not allow for that area to heal quickly while the implant treatment is going on. We routinely will bond in a temporary tooth using tooth #8 and #10 as anchors. Since you are already interested in replacing those other front crowns we can remove them and use those teeth to hold in a temporary tooth in the #9 position. In order to provide you an accurate cost estimate we would be happy to offer a complimentary consultation to you. The surgeon we work with will determine whether or not a bone graft is necessary and can provide you an estimate on that as well as the implant placement and wisdom teeth extractions. You can reach me at 770-623-8750.
